How the Season of Fall affects our Bodies and our Businesses; grief, reflection, and stillness10/20/2019 A dear friend who I spent a good portion of my weekend with, shared with me that she was experiences sadness and grief. For a multitude of reasons. She share thoughtfully with me and vulnerably and it was clear she was in a choice to be with her experience rather then trying to move away from it. So when she asked me today if I had thoughts about why she was experiencing deep deep sighs, similar to ones that many let out in a deep tissue massage, I knew right away how in-tune and in alignment she was with not only herself, but with the seasonal transition of fall and all that brings to the table.
Fall is the season in Chinese medicine, the celtic calendar and many other cultures where the energy is about letting go. The trees release their leaves to be returned to the ground and decompose to re-unite with the soil and earth. And as we let go we also let go of what no longer serves us emotionally or spiritually. The emotion of grief is commonly present. And in Chinese medicine the emotion attached to our lungs is grief. So as my friend asked about her deep sighs and had expressed her sadness over the weekend, I knew she was in the process of deeply honoring her experience and of letting go. As we slow down there is space to see what's not serving us so we can then release. And when we release from a place of gratitude and thanks for what we've learned and no longer need, we get to grow and transform. But we have to acknowledge our grief to get there. On the celtic calendar we've passed the harvest season where accounted for and celebrated all that grew all summer long and flourished under the sun and the high energy of the season. The celebrations are settling down and ceasing, and as the daylight is lessening our bodies too are requiring more rest and pause. Our bodies are slowing down as a way to prepare for the stillness winter requires of us. So we don't burn through all the nourishment we harvested too early. We get to create nourishment from within. We get to look at our newfound lessons and awareness, to examine what's been working for us and what has not been working for us. It is from this place of reflection that we will be able to abundantly create in the spring after we've meditated during the winter. My wish was for my friend to connect to her emotions, how they are landed and expressing themselves in her body and to take time to deeply rest and care for herself. And that is my wish for you! And that is my wish for all of my fellow healers in your practices and businesses. Let go of what's not working right now. Take a moment to reflect on what your business has looked like over the summer and examine if there's something to release. And acknowledge the new that was birthed. I wish for you all: 1. Naps....go for it! 2. Warm nourishing cooked yummy foods full of root vegetables and spices. 3. Many days of your favorite hoodie and scarf wearing. Protecting your neck during cold and flu season is essential. Some of those old wives tales carry golden nuggets of truth
